FAQ
Common questions.
Do I need an interior designer if I already have an architect or building designer?
Possibly. Architectural plans can resolve the building beautifully, but the interior often needs to be considered much earlier than people realise. Spatial planning, joinery, storage, furniture layouts and how the spaces function day to day can influence room proportions, wall positions, window sizes and locations, door positions, services and circulation. Interior Blank can work alongside your architect or building designer to resolve these decisions early, while there is still flexibility to shape the building around the way you actually want to live.
What’s the difference between interior design and joinery design?
Interior design considers the space as a whole. Joinery design goes deeper into cabinetry, storage, proportion, materiality, function and detailing. It’s where interior design thinking meets specialist cabinetry expertise.
Will my cabinetmaker design the joinery?
Some cabinetmakers provide design input, but they’re often engaged much later in the project — sometimes once construction is already underway. By then, important decisions may already be fixed. Interior Blank resolves the joinery earlier, while there is still flexibility to influence wall lengths, appliance clearances, fridge and pantry requirements, window and door positions, services, circulation and the overall aesthetic of the space. This allows the joinery to be designed as part of the architecture, rather than fitted into whatever space is left at the end.
When should I engage Interior Blank for joinery design?
Earlier than you might think. Ideally, joinery should be considered while the overall layout and building design are still being developed — not once everything is already fixed and ready for a cabinetmaker to quote. Resolving cabinetry early can influence room dimensions, circulation, storage, services, appliance locations and even window and door positions.
Can you work with my existing architect, interior designer or builder?
Yes. Interior Blank can work directly with homeowners or be engaged by architects, interior designers and builders as a specialist joinery resource. We can step in to resolve the joinery design and documentation, helping the wider project team work through cabinetry, spatial requirements, materials, detailing and functionality earlier in the process.
Can I engage Interior Blank just for joinery?
Yes. You can engage Interior Blank specifically for joinery design and documentation, or for joinery procurement and coordination where appropriate. You do not need to engage Interior Blank for the full interior design of your home.
Do you work on projects outside Northern NSW and the Gold Coast?
Yes. We offer full virtual interior and joinery design services Australia-wide. Joinery Procurement + Coordination is more location-dependent and will vary depending on the project, the cabinetmaker, delivery requirements and the level of site involvement needed. Get in touch and we can let you know what’s possible for your location.
I’m not sure which service I need. Where do I start?
Start by sending through a short overview of your project, where you’re up to and what you need help with. Interior Blank can then guide you toward the most appropriate service.
How do your fees work?
Fees depend on the scope and service required. Some services have fixed pricing, while larger interior design and joinery projects are quoted individually once the scope is clear.
